BluRay disk player is the source. Connect to an AV Receiver with a HDMI cable. The wire contains BOTH video and audio.

The AV Receiver passes along the video to a television. But it strips OFF the audio. – PROCESSING

The AV Receiver takes the 1 audio signal (a digital signal) and converts it to 6 analog signals: – PROCESSING

5 speakers worth of sound
1 subwoofer worth of sound

The 5 speakers worth of sound is then sent to amplifiers to convert from line-level to speaker-level signals. – PROCESSING

Then the 5 speaker-level signals are sent out the speaker jacks on the back of the AV receiver.
The 1 subwoofer analog signal is then sent out a subwoofer output jack on the back of the AV Receiver.
